Spindle Tops

I had to buy a few new spindles. All but 2 are new.

Closer look at some of the fibers. Can't wait to spin, problem is which one! What a dilema.

This is some of the fiber I purchased at MDSW (Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival). Now which to spin first. I had great fun, stayed with some spinning guild members, and we ate, drank, laughed, and shopped till we all dropped.

Wool

Purple wool I had bought years ago because I was going to learn to spin.

Merino

My first singles spun on our wheel. Black and white merino. Over all I was pleased still need to ply it. I have not had as much success with plying.

Silk

Silk Hankie from my fiber study class.

Triple Mohair

Kid Mohair, one of my first wheel projects. Spun each as a single then plyied them. If I were to do this again, I might blend them before spinning.

Merino/Silk

This is a Merino/Silk blend, I'm spinning in laceweight. It is absolutely luscious.

Dog Hair Spun

This is a sample of the dog hair from the girl below.

Wool/Mohair

This is a 50/50 wool/mohair blend, I'm going to ply w/black corriedale, to make a scarf for my daughter. I loved spinning this fiber.

Dog Hair

I posted to the list a month or so ago, about the dog HAIR spinning challange. I've posted a couple of pictures below, one just close up of the dog, the other showing her coat before shearing. The hair texture mats easily, spins and looks more like horse hair. Any comments or suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated. I'm afraid to start this undertaking.

First Yarn and Weaving

I'm posting pictures of my first skein of yarn and what I am weaving with it. With the 2 foot triangle loom I will make 9 panels and sew them together. I didn't think I would have enough yarn to use my 7 foot triangle loom. As it turns out I would have, oh well. I'm very pleased with the overall consistency of the yarn, it's 3 ply. Will post finished shawl when done.

In the beginning. . .

I've decided to create a blog, to show some of the fiber things I am working on, or jewelry, or dogs. What ever comes to mind. Below is my most precious girl Raven.
